Splitup ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application, Splitup (the "App").
Information Collection and Usage
1. Authentication
- We use Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In for authentication purposes only
- Basic profile information (name and email) from your Google or Apple account is used for account identification
- We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password
2. App Data
- Expense Information: Information you input about expenses, bills, and payments
- Group Information: Names of expense groups you create and the names of the members you add to them
- Group Images: If you choose an image for a group, it is uploaded to our storage and can be viewed by anyone who has its link
This information is stored securely and used only to provide the expense splitting functionality.
We count the groups you create in order to apply your group allowance. For accounts with the Unlimited pack, we track the number of active groups you created to apply a fair-use limit of 30 active groups. For Splitup Business accounts, we count every group created during your 12-month allowance, including groups later archived or deleted. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
3. Voice Input
Voice input is optional. You can add an expense by speaking instead of typing, for example "Dinner 1200, split equally between Sahil and me."
- When the microphone is on: Only while the voice screen is open after you tap the microphone button. Listening stops when you tap Done, when you stop speaking, or when you close the screen.
- How speech becomes text: Your device's built-in speech recognition service converts your speech to text. This is Apple's speech recognition on iOS and the speech recognition service on your Android device (usually provided by Google). Your device may send the audio to that provider to be transcribed. This is handled under Apple's or Google's own privacy policy.
- What we keep: Splitup does not record, store, or upload your voice audio. The text of what you said is used on your device only to fill in the expense form. It is not sent to our servers or to our analytics provider. Only the expense you review and choose to save is stored, like any other expense.
- Usage information: We record basic events about the voice feature, such as whether it was used and which fields were filled in, to improve it. These events never contain your audio, the text of what you said, or anyone's name.
- Permissions: Voice input needs microphone access and, on iOS, speech recognition access. You can turn these off at any time in your device settings. The rest of the App works without them.
4. Analytics and Diagnostics
- We use PostHog to understand how the App is used and to fix problems. It receives app usage events (such as screens viewed and features used), your account ID and your email address, so that events can be linked to your account
- PostHog may also record session replays: recordings of your interactions with the App's screens. These can include expense and group information shown on screen. The text of what you say using voice input is hidden from these recordings
- Basic device information (device type, operating system and app version) is collected for troubleshooting
5. Notifications
- If you allow notifications, a push notification token from Firebase Cloud Messaging is stored with your account so we can send you reminders and updates about your groups
6. Purchases
- Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your card or payment details
- We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases. It receives your account ID and your purchase history so your purchases can be restored on your devices
- Splitup Business: Business allowances are invoiced directly by us, not through the app stores. If you contact us about or buy Splitup Business, we keep the contact and billing details you give us (such as your name, organization, email address and billing address) to answer your enquiry, issue invoices and keep the business records we are required to keep
